The success of the Merritt Centennials organization is largely due to the quality and number of our fantastic volunteers. Each game we require numerous volunteers to assist in game operations, many times behind the scenes and void of recognition. The Merritt Centennials are always looking for more great staff to help run our hockey games. If interested, please contact Marketing Manager Rachael Sanders at 250-378-3604 or email marketing@merrittcentennials.com for more information.

In the past we have had volunteers from all areas of our community. Our volunteers have come in the form of students, retired members of our community, young hockey players, and we have even had whole families volunteer, which is a great bonding family function.

The Cents welcome all volunteers, there is no minimum game commitment, or requirements. Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, obtain volunteer hours for school, and be a part of a great organization.

MERRITT CENTENNIALS

Becoming a Merritt Centennials Billet Family

For many of us, our choice to move away from the family home was a decision made when we were in our late teens, or even twenties. If you think back, you will remember a lot of the anxiety that went along with this move. For a Junior A hockey player who leaves their family home to follow their dreams, they are not just leaving family and friends behind to go to a new city or town, but they are still expected to perform both on and off the ice in their new community. Without caring billet families to ease this transition, our young athletes, and future stars might never make the decisions they do to pursue their dreams.
The Billet Family experience in most cases becomes a lasting relationship between the player, the players family and the billet family. Our hockey players in the past have served as great role models not only in their community, but for younger family members who can learn from these players dedication and sacrifices to obtain their goals. Often the billet family through this experience have gained a 'new family member' who's career they can monitor, be it at the college, semi pro or even professional level.
To assist you, the Merritt Centennials have constructed and supply a "Billet Manual" that is used as a guide for players and family billets. We'd be glad to send you a copy. As an extra bonus and to say "Thank You", billets are financially compensated and also receive a seasons ticket for each member of the household to all Cents home games!
If you are interested in becoming a billet for a Cents hockey player please call our Billet Co-coordinator Andrea Barnes at 250-315-0229 or email topoftherock@live.ca.
The importance of billet families to the Merritt Centennials Hockey Club is immeasurable. Simply put, without the billet families we could not put a team on the ice. They provide an environment of support and trust. The Merritt Centennials appreciate the commitment, generosity and dedication of these fantastic people.

PENTICTON VEES
The Penitcon Vees Family has always been very fortunate with how genorous the community of Penticton has been to them.  This is most evidently seen through our billet family program.
Each year, dozens of families are kind enough to give our players a chance to get a good night rest, eat a nice home cooked meal and allow them the opportunity to play towards the dream of becoming a National Hockey League Player.  The Vees have had several players go on to play NCAA Division 1 Hockey, get drafted, and go on to play in the NHL.  Players such as Zac Dalpe have had local families open their hearts and their homes for a few months.  To this day many of these players still stay in touch with their housing mothers and fathers.
We are always looking for new families within Penticton who would like to reach out and become a billet family.  If you are interested in receiving more information, please contact our billet coordinator. Cathy Tribbeck 250-809-1411 veesbilletcoordinator@hotmail.com

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS

What is Expected of the Billet Family?
The player needs a room of his own or can share a room with another team member. He needs a bed and dresser and some closet space. The billet family is required to provide meals for the player (occasionally it will be the responsibility of the player to prepare his own meal). Players are expected to provide their own personal care items, cell phones, media equipment and to take care of their own transportation needs (most will have their own vehicle). A set of house rules and expectations will go a long way to help a player prepare for his new surroundings.

What Is Expected of the Player?

Players must adhere to all team and house rules and show respect and consideration towards all family members. The generosity of a billet family will not be taken for granted. The billet coordinator will maintain contact with the billet family and the player to ensure that both are enjoying the experience.

How Long Is the Billet Family Commitment?

This will vary depending on the player. Some players may only require a billet home for the duration of the main camp and pre-season schedule while other players will be with the team for the full length of the season. Depending on the team's success, this could be from mid-August to the end of May. Most players will go home during the Christmas Break or as the schedule permits. Throughout the season, players will be on the road for up to five days/nights at a time as they travel with the team to compete against other teams in the League.

Additional Information

To cover expenses, billet families are paid twice monthly for each player in their home. Some families have found it easier to house two players as they can travel together and provide company for each other.
Billet families have included the traditional two parent families, single parent families and "empty-nesters". All that is required is the willingness to provide a "Home Away from Home" for a player that has made the commitment to pursue the dream of furthering his hockey career with the Prince George Spruce Kings.
If you are interested in becoming a billet family or would like more information, please contact Ron Gallo through the Spruce Kings office at 250.564.1747 or by email
