The Edmonton Oilers have named Keith Gretzky as the club’s new assistant general manager.

Gretzky, 49, one of two younger brothers of Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky, has spent the last five years with the Boston Bruins, most recently as director of amateur scouting.

Before joining the Bruins, he worked in scouting with the Phoenix Coyotes, now known as the Arizona Coyotes.

Gretzky’s appointment was one of several announced Tuesday in a shakeup of the Oilers hockey operations staff.

Buchberger moves up; Howson is out

Bill Scott, replaced by Gretzky as assistant general manager, moves into a new role as director of salary cap management and assistant to the president of hockey operations.

Kelly Buchberger will now serve as the club’s vice-president of player development.

Duane Sutter has been promoted to vice-president of player personnel.

Frank Jay and P.J. Fenton have been brought on as amateur scouts.

Andre Bin has been hired as manager of hockey communications and research.

Shawn May has been promoted to manager of hockey communications and media relations.

Justin Mahe has been promoted to manager of hockey analysis.

Scott Howson, former senior vice-president of player personnel, is leaving the club “to explore other opportunities,” the Oilers said.

The OiIers did not renew the contract of analytics consultant Tyler Dellow.
